Country Regulations
Under Austria's 10th amendment to the Communications Parameters, Fees and Value-Added Services Ordinance (KEM-V), alphanumeric Sender IDs must be registered in the official registry maintained by RTR (Austria's Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications).
The registry became available on 1 July 2026.
The new delivery requirements took effect on 1 October 2026.
Only registered alphanumeric Sender IDs may be delivered to Austrian recipients.
Each Sender ID must be associated with its actual owner, and the sender must be authorised to use it.
New registrations may only be used after a 14-day waiting period following entry in the registry.
Country Restrictions
Unregistered Sender IDs: Messages using Sender IDs that are not listed in the RTR registry must be blocked.
Sender ID authenticity: If a Sender ID is registered but the provider cannot verify that the message was sent on behalf of its owner, the Sender ID may be replaced with “Unbekannt” (Unknown). Messages must be blocked if there is clear evidence that they were not sent on behalf of the registered owner.
Generic Sender IDs: Generic identifiers that cannot be linked to a specific owner, such as “Reservation” or “Dentist,” are not permitted.
Sender ID ownership: The registered company name must be complete and accurate. The justification must establish a clear link between the Sender ID and its owner. A similar website domain alone is not sufficient evidence.
International traffic: The regulation restricts the delivery of alphanumeric SMS sent from abroad to Austrian recipients. The applicable routing and delivery arrangements should be confirmed with the relevant provider.
Extra Information
Sender IDs are case-sensitive. Register each casing variant that you intend to use.
The registration justification must be provided in German.
The registered owner's contact and address details must be supplied; the aggregator's details should not be used in place of the owner's information.
The justification should explain why the Sender ID uniquely identifies the company, for example through its registered company name, trade name, product name or trademark.
Registration must be arranged through an eligible mobile service provider. Contact your 8x8 representative for the applicable registration process and required documentation.
